WHAT IS THE KASHMIR CONFLICT?
Kashmiri people have been living under the rule of Indian occupation since 1947, from where it was taken over by Britain as British protectorates in 1947. It was later taken over by Germany as part of their colonial empire. It was never settled in one country but there were always a lot of problems that Kashmir faced because of being colonized. The major problem was the lack of water supply to many villages and this led to development issues like the construction of roads and other infrastructure. In 1989 after independence, many political parties wanted all those issues changed. They even came up with two choices which were dividing India and Kashmir, which led to long border wars. Currently, the Kashmir dispute is still ongoing among both sides.
WHO GETS BENEFITS FROM KASHMIR CONFLICT?
The main argument of the Kashmiri group is that India supports terrorism and also makes money from Kashmiri resources. However, many people believe that the Kashmir dispute is one of mutual interest as they both believe that Kashmir matters. Many people are against the Kashmiris because they believe that it would benefit Pakistan, especially if Kashmiri forces get involved, they would have to pay a heavy price, so in order to save its position, the government has decided to keep the Kashmir dispute peaceful. Some say that the Kashmir problem can only benefit Pakistan if there is no intervention by other countries. Others also think that the Kashmir conflict could turn out to be advantageous for the whole world if there is an agreement between international bodies such as SCI and the UN on the Kashmir dispute. But how? The solution we have now is to keep peace on the Kashmir dispute which is easy. WHAT CAUSED THE KASHMIR CONFLICT?
When the first partition of India took place in 1947, Kashmir became ‘Indian’s’ territory as well as the British crown lands. As time goes by, India began to colonize the land of Kashmir with military bases and it had an idea to make Kashmir self-governing. But in 1965, Pakistan banned any kind of relations between them and said it could cause a threat to Kashmir, as a result, Kashmiris asked India for independence. After some period, Pakistan agreed and promised not to allow such sort of relations. Then in 1971, Pakistan withdrew its troops from Kashmir and said it was going to end the security situation on Kashmir, to which India didn't agree. After decades, negotiations started between Pakistan and India. Then some years back, Pakistan gave an ultimatum to India to vacate Kashmir within 3 months or else something would happen. So then India accepted and the peace talks started between Pak and India. Since then Kashmir has remained frozen in limbo. If it does not happen soon, I think we will see more instability in Kashmir and I don’t think the Pakistan government wants the situation to go worse. Even when the war broke out between Pakistan and India in 1999, the Pakistan administration didn't want the Kashmiri army to join hands with the rest of Pakistan. But still, Pakistan didn't give any order that the Indian Army should attack India. After all, the Pakistani flag-bearers are pro-Kashmiris and are against terrorists and I think that they can force India to withdraw its forces from Kashmir. If Indian does not reverse its decision on Kashmir, Pakistan might react, and then it would bring about further instability in Kashmir.
