A gas turbine is a combustion power machine with a continuous flow of air and combustion gases. Gas Turbine (GT) Operating Principle can be explained through the following steps;
1) The air is compressed by means of compressor stages.
2) Afterwards in the Combustion Chamber gaseous or liquid fuel is mixed with the air, ignited and burned.
3) In the following turbine part the generated hot gas is expanded.
4) Therefore the thermal energy is changed into mechanical energy (that is used also for the drive of the GT Compressor).
5) Compressor air is used for cooling of the turbine blades.
6) Then the thermal energy is changed into mechanical energy, that is used also for the drive of the compressor.
7) The remaining share of the GT mechanical energy is used for driven a generator, a fan or a pump etc..
